    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The activities were varied and interesting, the people were great to work with and it was good fun getting to know the other interns.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues took me on as part of their team and were keen to get me involved in all aspects of the business and let me contribute to the different tasks that they were working on.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was always there to help along with two assigned 'buddies' who could always be relied upon for support or questions. The support and structure provided by the HR team was also great.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had lots of tasks and projects to do, perhaps too much at times and learning to juggle these commitments was essential. The amount of work that you had to do was dependent on whether members of your team got you involved and I was fortunate in this respect.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Colleagues were always willing to give me meaningful work and responsibility despite my lack of experience making everything that I did feel like I was contributing in a valid way.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed will be very useful going forwards as I have greatly improved my time management and people skills along with my confidence and ability to speak in front of people.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Colleagues were generally happy to have a chat and laugh while at the same time still getting work done leading to a good atmosphere.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised with excellent structure and great events organised for networking and other activities. A lot of presentations and meetings set up by HR for you to learn more about various aspects of the business.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were about 4 days of training by a company called the Smarty Train which was very useful and focused on soft skills such as presenting and networking. The only qualm that I would have is with the lack of any more technical training.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is room to move positions both within the many areas of Barclays Wealth and to a lesser extent Barclays as a whole.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was good fun going out with the other interns most Friday nights and occasionally during the week.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Canary Wharf is very expensive for most things, especially drinks.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are a good number of bars and pubs around Canary Wharf that are good to go to.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a cricket team and other workplace teams. Also people were keen to organize charity events.

    4/5
