The Role
- Role Description
Responding to emails from clients and voicemails from the previous night. Then into the workflow where tasks would need to prioritised in terms of travel date and importancy. These would include collecting unpaid balances, completing rooming lists, amending bookings and dealing with complaints.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
A thoroughly enjoyable placement in a young company.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
A lot of team work is required, especially within a medium size business I dealt with nearly every department at some point.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Support was easily available and organising a meeting if I needed one was simple.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
At some points extremely busy but this was just because the company was growing and the ash cloud crisis was unpredictable.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
Given my own customers, and after a few months just left to the work which was great and you felt valued.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Definitely learnt a lot to put towards my personal skills in terms of telephone and people skills which boosted my confidence and organisation massively but to put towards my dissertation or degree I think is too specific.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
A lot of socials to be part of and always somebody up for friday drinks.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Excellent. The previous placement students had a cross over period and they conducted a lot of the training which was helpful (coming from the horse's mouth!).
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
The company have a high turnover of placement staff every year.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- National Travel
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
There are lot of possibilites to go back with the company but I would like to try something new when I finish my degree.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
There are lots of students old and new to socialise with.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Windsor is expensive for living.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Lots of clubs, pubs, restaurants and shops and London is really quick to get to.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Whether it was football or all the students meeting up for a Saturday night. Very friendly.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
This is a company that really will make you work hard, but the more you put in the more you get out of the placement. The company is very knowledgable with regards to placements and so they are very clued up with helping you acheive the best out of your year.
