  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • I really enjoyed everything I did during the summer. I found the work challenging but this only encouraged me to push myself further.

    • I felt like my team appreciated the work that I did but at the same time, my knowledge was limited so I didn't help a huge amount.

    • I met regularly with my supervisor and spoke daily with the management of my project.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • Apart from the first few days when finding my footing, I always had work to be getting on with but didn't feel too pressured with an over-the-top workload either.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was working in a DEV environment. The work I produced, I am told, will be developed further and tested, then implemented. I was one of two people working on the project so felt a big responsibility for my work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • My programming knowledge has greatly improved. This won't aid my degree a huge amount as the job doesn't relate to my degree, but I learnt vital skills that can be used in jobs in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • People worked effectively on their own but there was always chats and everyone was very friendly and approachable. And lots of free cake/ biscuits!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • My whole placement ran pretty smoothly. I've had a couple of HR-related issues but nothing major.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • Huge investment in me. My skills at the start (and still now) are probably not beneficial to them right now, but they recognise that if they offer me good training then I could be a good investment.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • The interns form strong bonds before the internship even begins, with networking events held before and regularly during the placement.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • London is pretty expensive for everything. But Barclays subsidised this accommodation.

    • London nightlife is great!

    • Lots of sports clubs/ activities, socials, volunteering etc
