The Role
- Role Description
My daily duties and main tasks included:
- Software development on a web application
- Bug fixing
- Using technologies such as SQL, .NET, Classic ASP, XHTML and Javacript- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

I enjoyed the challenge learning new processes, technologies and skills. Contributing to the software in development gave me a great satisfaction. The work was varied and challenging which made sure my time on placement was intresting

My ideas and comments were valued by my work colleagues, my fellow work colleagues were always happy to help, very friendly and showed me with great respect
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

I was given support and guidance each time I needed it. If I had a problem my line manager was very understanding and helpful
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

The majority of the time I was kept busy enough not to get bored. Sometimes the workload did increase but nothing that I could not manage. If I had completed my work/tasks further work was found for me quickly
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

I was given quite a bit of responsibility for my position, I was given the task of backing up the company's main servers and bug fixing a new piece of development which needed to meet strict deadline
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

I have developed both technical and inter-personal skills which i can take forward with me into my career. I learnt new technical skills which on placement as well as improving the skills I already had. I also learnt how a professional company operates in a professional IT market
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

The atmosphere was always relaxed and pleasant environment to work in
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

The placement was set up very well with inductions and learning exercises when I first arrived so i was not thrown into the deep end
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Most of the training was on the job. I don't believe the company invested a lot into me but I am grateful for the company given me a placement
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

- Financial Bonus
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Future employment with the company would be appealing, as I know the company, people there and how it operates and I am happy with the work environment
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

Other placement students were placed in a separate part of the office to me but when we did see each other there was a good social scene
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I was living in Sheffield for this placement as I have been doing for the past two years, the cost of living has not changed
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Sheffield has good nightlife
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Sheffield is full of opportunities if you are into that thing
