Always plenty to do - it was never a boring job but stayed later most days to get experiments finished (but it was interesting work so I didn't mind!)

it was important for me to learn what it was like to work in a real lab - rather than a teaching lab at uni. The focus for an industrial lab is very different to an academic lab but the analytical skills carry over from one to the other.

They had a mini project lined up for me when I arrived but it took a while to get my computer at my workstation set up and I had to go to another site to get a full safety induction

As I was only there for the summer, I wasn't given full training on any of the equipment such as the SEM, however I did get to use some of the analytical equipment under the supervision of another colleague. Corus also sponsored me to be at uni last year.

I was working in a lab near to home so I didn't have to spend money on accommodation. Chester isn't that cheap, but at the same time it's not going to drain all the money you earn to live there

14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

Only two clubs in chester - Rosies and Cruise, although there are plenty of pubs. It's pretty easy to get to liverpool on the train if you fancy a whole night there too

15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

There weren't any organised activities but it was nice to go out for drinks with the guys from work
