Job Title: IDS Manager

Overall Rated 9.7

★★★★★★★★★★

The Role

Role Description

I had responsibility to project manage three different project which required various degrees of technical knowledge. I was directly accountable for ensuring the smooth running of the projects and ensuring that any stakeholders were kept up to date at all times.

1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

The most incredible 10 weeks - meeting loads of new people and learning and developing many transferable skills.

2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

At no stage did I feel I was treated any differently to any other member of staff.

3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

At P&G I had real responsibility from the start - your projects are issued after no formal training in those areas - you have a manager and coach assigned to you in order to point you in the right direction - and you book training sessions with the experts in that field as and when you need it.

4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
★★★★★★★★★

Rated 9/10

Certain days were busier than others - but at no stage did I feel that I had been given more work than I felt I was capable of nor did I ever have nothing to do. Due to the short length it does get intense at stages - but very much a "work hard, play hard" attitude.

5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

Real responsibility too - as an intern I was allowed and even encouraged to make decisions that would directly impact P&G - from minor technical changes to whole process transformations. I was allowed alot of freedom in terms of how innovative I could be with ideas too.

6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

In an environment like P&G you are able to develop skills in so many areas - and without doubt this is improving my final year at university.

The Organisation

7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
★★★★★★★★☆☆

Rated 8/10

The office was a fantastic working environment - It doesn't feel like other offices I have worked at - Ties and suits are not expected and a Wii on each floor encourages breaks - however it ultimately is still a work conducive environment. They seem to have got their work culture absolutely spot on.

8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

The organisation behind the internship was phenomenal. The first week of the internship is spent at "Intern Collage" which is a great opportunity to find out how the company works as a whole. All the interns from all the functions learn non function specific aspects of the company - and the final two days are function specific training's organised by your function. Then everyone moves to their respective offices around the country where accommodation etc has all been sorted! Organised dinners and meeting other interns - it all was well researched and well deployed! Real support from the beginning.

9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

Huge amounts of time and money are invested in both interns and full time staff - Interns were not treated any differently.

10. What were the perks on your work placement?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

  • Flexi Time
  • Subsidised Canteen
  • Sports and Social Club
  • Company Parties/Events
11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

Looking forward to hopefully starting in September next year.

Other Information

12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

Great social aspects - still in contact with both interns and colleagues.

13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
★★★★★★★★☆☆

Rated 8/10

Living in Newcastle was cheaper than expected and subsidised accommodation was provided.

14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

Being based in Newcastle was incredible for nightlife!

15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

From badminton to curry clubs - there was a social or sports club to cater for all needs.
