  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved it most of the time!

  • My opinions were always valued by my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Guidance was given where neccesary, but my supervisors left me to use my initiative when appropriate.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Usually I had just the right amount of work, but there were times when I was absolutely frantic trying to get everything done. Other times I sat twiddling my thumbs (not very often though).

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In my year at Cummins I have been able to put my theoretical knowledge into practice. I will go back to university with an increased enthusiasm for engineering.

  • An absolute party most of the time.

  • The company had a good structure for placement students. They even provided a 'Student Development Programme'.

  • They invested a lot of time and money into training for me.

  • Never say never!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Oh the very best. Everyone got on well with each other most of the time.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home, so it was pretty cheap. Also, the placement was in Darlington, so socialising was pretty cheap too.

  • Most of the time we were in Darlington. Need I say more?

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. Go-karting, bowling, eating pizza, drinking beer, etc.
