The Role
- Role Description
Day to Day management and training of an in-experience student sales force.
Working on my sales skills through in field direct sales every day.
Strategically coordinating the sales of over £400,000 over a 10 week intensive period.
Helping to coordinate the living space, transport, salaries and impending difficulties that could possible arise from managing 25 staff. Including, police, landlords, the AA (often), customers, parents, winning contracts etc.- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
Its the hardest thing i've ever done, and it is impossible to realise the benefits from undertaking the programme till its over. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
The structure of the programme meant that everyone lived in teams with a team leader, we all got to know each other a bit too well and being in a team environment motivated us.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
We were given ongoing training throughout the summer, with plenty of help whenever we needed it.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Very busy, not a lot of free time, but we were all in it together to work hard and push ourselves, we loved every second and when we did have time off together we really appreciated it.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
Because it was my 4th time with the same company i was given the responsibility to run my own section of the organisation. If i didnt work then no one did, that is how much responsibility fell on my shoulders.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
the programme helped me to put all of the course material into a real life environment and make it real. I has given me a new zest for the course and to learn more.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The banter within the teams always means there is fun to be had. And of course in the sales environment you are always meeting new people.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Because it is run mostly by students then there is the potential for everything to fall apart pretty quickly. But it was a tight ship, the only time there were any hiccups were when we were reliant upon an external party, e.g delivery times.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
The training must have cost them close to a £1000 per person, and we were well accomodated throughout. It is rare to find a short internship that is paid with that level of intensiveness in the training.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Company Car
- Financial Bonus
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I am currently looking into a new contract with them.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
lots of nights out and fun. very work hard play hard orientated environment.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Just outside london, guildford, so not too bad.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Not great. But i am used to a capital city.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Opportunities were there to anyone who was willing to get up and do them.
