The Role
- Role Description
As a Trading Assistant in Asda you learn all about cost negotiation, profitability analysis, customers spending habits. After this you take on the role of Trainee Buyer for your second year. Here, you put what you've learnt into practice by managing a product range. This involves full profit and loss responsibility and the opportunity to source products from all over the world.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

It was challenging aswell as rewarding, it was a great oppertunity to get out of the class room and put all the theory i have learned over my degree into practise.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

This is a good question, but its what you make of it as it such a big company at times you are left to your self and may feel no one is there to support you but in the end it is worth all the effort.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

Where given clear instrctions and in the later stages of the placement you are left to your own accord, which in itself can be a great oppertunity to thrive and and see the rewards of your hard work.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

fast moving company, with thousands of products constantly busy, there was always something to do.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
at the start it was limited but towards the end of the placement it was many key decisions were left to me, which was really a rewarding experience.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I have a in depth understanding of the retail industry and product awareness and consumer buying habbits. After this placement it has give me the confidence to set up my own shop and know exatcly what products to buy, how to do market research and organise the layout of a store. Also has gave me an oppertunity to be in contact with various suppliers and how products are brought from abroad.

Its lively and busy, people always entering and leaving the building.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

its was a well structured programe easy to follow, and alot of freedom of expression.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

By letting you handle and mange thier products, they gave me first hand experience of what it is actually like to work in this field.

- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

I was offered a job with them............
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

monthly meals, weekly drinks and occasional football games between staff members
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Leeds big city so wasnt the cheapest of places but you get buy, many cheap student nights every where tho which was good.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
some of the best clubs around in leeeeds...........
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Footballl matches, and advertising...

Its is a great scheme that asda is offering, and would recomend it to anyone...
