The Role
- Role Description
My role will be to oversee see the daily & weekly tasks which occur, such as, the Demand Inventory which consists of Work Requests from all Functions within Corus, the ISJR system which also deals with Work Requests but this system is where the status and changes are made. A major part of my role will be producing Service Board Summaries; these summaries are PowerPoint presentations that are breakdowns in details of the Demand Inventory, Financials and Service Measures (calls logged at the service desk).
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
The job I carried out was very different to the one advertised. Though the job was different I still enjoyed working at Corus.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
I was offered a contract extension that would carry through to my final year at University.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Although management was available to provide help if I needed it, I was expected to self-learn and find work to carry out myself a lot.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
The fourth and fifth month were quite slow but my job description changed dramatically for the final six months so I had a lot of work to complete daily.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
My responsibilities changed constantly so this is hard to rate.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Unsure. I will know when I receive my degree.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The atmosphere was always happy and the people I worked with were all nice.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Not very good. This may have been because of the transition that Corus was experiencing at the time.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
I did attend a training session but I could have benefited from a lot more professional training.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- There were no perks with this placement year
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
The companies situation is not promising.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
No, I did not work in an area where any other placement students worked. Also my colleagues were at least 10 - 20 years older than I was so our interests did not align.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I lived in Cardiff, which being a capital city everything was quite expensive.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Quite good, although I expected more from a capital city.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
I joined a rugby team for a brief period.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
No.
