    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was given a very challenging brief so the overall experience felt like a bit of a struggle, but the end result was successful and I believe helped contribute towards the company in a concrete way.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Overall everyone was very welcoming, helpful, and supportive. Many people were happy to give up their time for me despite being very busy.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given excellent, friendly support by my line manager throughout my internship, regularly making sure that I was okay and that I was getting the help I needed to carry out my project.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I was running the project on my own, it was easy to feel a bit isolated without having someone else to work with and bounce around ideas. Sometimes days would alternate between having a huge amount to do, or not having enough to get on with.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I ran the project on my own, but worked closely with the CEO and the heads of Marketing in order to head in the right direction. I had to get help from as many people as possible in order to learn as much as I could about the company and the direction in which everyone felt I should take the project.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed my skills of self-motivation, organisation, presentation, research, creativity, group-work and working alone. I also gave multiple presentations to the CEO and heads of the company. I feel that these are invaluable skills which will assist me in my studies and beyond.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was often lighthearted, fun, and there was a genuine community-feel. It was also evident that everybody had a real desire to work hard and to the best of their ability.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised; the first few weeks were carefully structured for me, and the rest was left up to me to take the project in the direction I wanted. However, the project itself ended up becoming a lot more ambiguous and controversial than anticipated. The heads of Marketing and CEO weren't entirely sure themselves what they wanted, and a lot of the people I talked to had conflicting opinions about where I should take the project.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My work placement didn't require any training, but I know that technical interns where given training and support.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • A future job with the company would not be unappealing, but I'm not sure if it's the direction I want to head in.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene among both my fellow interns and colleagues.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cambridge is fairly expensive and can go up to London prices.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The abundance of fantastic pubs, bars, and restaurants makes up for the lack of clubs.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were loads of social and sports activities that you could get involved with through the company.

    4/5
