The Role
- Role Description
I was responsible for brands such as Milka and Terry's Chocolate Orange and I had to ensure that our European factories produced and distributued enough stock for the UK without creating stock risks and stock out issues. I also had to arrange transport for my products into the UK and I had to liase with various departments within the business to ensure that any issues that occured during the production or transport of the stock were quickly resolved.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I enjoyed every aspect of my job and didn't want to return to University.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
I was always a member of the team and was never treated as "the Placement student"
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
I was initially thrown in at the deep end and realised the manager would rather let me sort out the problem, however, the opportunities given to me by my manager were invaluable and he was always happy to help.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
With Chocolate being a seasonal business there were periods that were far busier than others but I always felt that the wordload was manageable.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I couldn't have asked for more, I was trusted from day 1 with my brand groups and was slowly given larger factories and brand groups to look after. The levek of trust was shown when I was sent on business to Austria to represent the UK business.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
When I started I found I had little business skills and completing the placement has given me these skills for life. They will be invaluable when applying for Graduate positions.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Everyone who I worked with was friendly and always willing to help, the managers were down to earth and I never felt like I was working in a tense environment.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Overall, very well as they having been running the placement scheme for a number of years. The only downfall was sometimes at the beginning of the placement I felt a little lost as the support wasn't always there.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
My talents were recognised and I was pushed to achieve the best, also the managers were always helping me better myself and market myself for the graduate position within the business.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Sports and Social Club
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- International Travel
- Company Parties/Events
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- Above 25 days holiday
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I will definately be applying for the graduate scheme, Kraft is very good at rewarding work with a promotion and I see them as a long term career path.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Work hard play hard.....we all had a great time together both in and out of work and I will be keeping in contact with many of them in the future.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Cheltenham hasn't got as many student deals as other cities and can be pricey at times.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
There are more bars to relax in after work with mates rather than big nightclubs, but the ones that are there aren't too bad.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Working for Kraft was the best decision I ever made and I will be doing my best to get back into the company upon graduation.
