Job Title: Summer Scheme Student
Overall Rated 8.0
★★★★★★★★☆☆
The Role
- Role Description
Participating in summer scheme events
Team building exercises
Skills workshops
Drafting letters to clients
Drafting agreements and contracts
Attending client meetings- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
Enjoyed every single day and the workload was always varied.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
I was treated like a member of the team who had been there all year.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
They often asked how I was getting on and gave me "crash courses" in the various elements of the law.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Aside from my hour lunch break, I was working non-stop! Although there was flexibility in when I took a lunch break or had little chats with people in the department.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
All my work had to be checked once, if not twice, before being sent to clients. However, I was left alone to get on with the work so had a degree of responsibility.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
The first placement where I was taught some vital skills, not just how to survive a summer scheme, but also how to work in an office environment and manage tasks.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Everyone was upbeat, willing to chat and generally had time to answer questions. Some days were quiet though.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Cannot fault the organisation as we were each given timetables with places to be, information on the tasks we would be doing and how long events would last.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
The first two days were spent solely on training us so that we could work. The sessions did not cover everything, but it is hard to predict exactly what we would and would not need to know.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Do not know the result yet, but if offered a job, would definitely accept.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
There was always at least one person ready to go to lunch, across the road to the bar for a drink or out to party away!
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
As a Londoner, I expected the prices to be high.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Good to start the night, but definitely need to move on somewhere else.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
We were only here for three weeks so relatively limited. Nonetheless, we could get involved with pro-bono, sports teams and watching the charity show.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Fantastic range of work and list of tasks, if you express your interest in getting involved with specific cases.
