Job Title: Learning & Development Intern
Overall Rated 7.3
★★★★★★★☆☆☆
The Role
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at CR-UK. The team I was working in were approachable, friendly and always valued my contribution.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
They couldnt have really done a better job of making me feel welcomed and valued within the team
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
At every step I felt I could go to both my mentor and managers alike for guidance and help
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
This went in peaks and troughs throughout the placement. Whilst mostly I had a nice amount to keep me busy, at no point did I feel rushed off my feet and for a few days, my workload was slightly limitted.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I had full responsibility for a couple of discrete projects.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
As well as project management skills, the greatest learning for me was more general insight into how a large organisation like CR-UK runs and how all the departments collaborate to strive towards communal goals.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Relatively quiet, but very friendly
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
From recruitment and interview through to the induction and CV/interview training mid way through the internship, I thought it was organised pretty well.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
As I was in the learning and development team, as you can expect my personal development was always considered and I had weekly 1:1s with my mentor as well as development aids. In addition, I was asked frequently if there were areas that I would like to develop of focus on.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
There are always interns who get extended contracts or full time positions after the placements end. However, whether you get one straight after seems to be determined by the organisational needs and whether a job role in the department you're working in becomes available.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
As there is 40+ interns in one cohort at CR-UK, there is plenty of people to socialise with and whilst naturally people did form little groups, it wasn't an issue!
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
London....
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
There are plenty of pubs and bars in angel, although you would have to look a little bit further a field for any clubs
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
We were encouraged to come together as interns and fundraise. There were also opportunities to volunteer at events throughout our placement.
