The Role
- Role Description
- Gathering requirements for the project
- Constuction user stories and use cases
- Undertaking certain testing techniques
- Presentation of our project to managers/employees- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I loved the internship. It was extremely well structured and Credit Suisse as a company truely value every individual that works for them
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
There was a lot of respect amongst the employees, by both the interns and the mangement alike. I was able to easily integrate into the team and felt as though my contributions thoroughly valued
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
The management team always were supportive and offered plenty of guidance. We also undertook training towards the beginning of the internship to help give us an understanding of the area we were working within and the techniques we were going to be utilising.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
We were responsible for creating our workload, however the project we were given ensured that that amount of work that was required was sufficient
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
We got the chance to run our own project from start to finis. After presenting it to a auditorium full of employees we were approached by a manager of a division to use the application in their day to day running of the organisation
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Although I have graduated from University now, the skills I learnt during the internship have put me in great stead for my future working for the company. Although I previously had no experience of the banking sector, I can safely say that I have no worries about continuing my career in one
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The team around me being fun and energetic and the work we undertook being stimulating meant that I was able to thoroughly enjoy my days in the office. The internship as a whole was a hugely enjoyable experience and not only was the work fun, but there were plenty of arranged external work events that made the summer even better
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The program structure and the project we were given to complete meant that we were all able to utilise all our skills we possessed as well and developing and learning new ones. The responsibility were were given was amazing as we really felt we were an important assett of the organisation
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
We were subject to financial training at the start of the internship (as the internship was for an IT placement and banking knowledge was limited), In addition we had weekly talks from managers across various departments to give their oversight what that department consisted of. We also had numerous talks from other important employees, discussing both developments within Credit Suisse as an organisation and also skills that we may require for our project
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I have been offered a position on the graduate program so the prospects are looking appealing!
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Yes- I have made life long friends. We had continous social interactions both inside and outside of work and these interactions continued after the placement finished. A few of us even went on holiday together!
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Socialising was common, although the prices were VERY steep. Being based at canary wharf meant many after work drinks were in local pubs where of course the prices arent cheap. However were possible we went out to many places in London where the price of living/socialising varies immensely. It is also worth noting however, that although Canary Wharf is expensive, we were paid a highly competitive wage- so this reduced the worry of spending too much!!
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Canary Wharfs nightlife is limited- however of course with the rest of London so close by the possibilities are endless
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
We undertook a volunteering day during the summer and had events such as a leavers party organised for us. There were also many other events we had such as dinners, nights out and sporting activies such as dragon boat racing and a football match
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
I was taken on as in IT Intern at Credit Suisse in the Fixed Income Division, so I can therefore only speak on behalf of that team/project. I do however highly recommend Credit Suisse as an organisation and thoroughly recommend everyone to apply for a position on their internship/graudate program
