Job Title: Summer Associate - Financial Institutions Group
Overall Rated 7.6
★★★★★★★★☆☆
The Role
- Role Description
Advise banks, insurance companies, asset managers and financial technology firms on strategic M&A, divestiture transactions, capital raising etc.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
Very much enjoyed because:
- People were very good, professional and approachable
- Credit Suisse's summer programme is very well structured around: live pitching, education and sector presentations - 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Very much so. Whenever possible, my colleagues would ask me to step in and use my skills to help them solve an issue
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
A great deal. I felt accompanied during my internship, and colleagues were very much willing to provide me with feedback and help me progress
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
I was very busy, didn't do face time (and was never encouraged to do any) and kept working on interesting transactions from which I learned a lot
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
A lot, I believe. I was given the chance to work on pitches to clients and live deals, with the amount of pressure and responsibility a full-time associate is expected to take on
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
It helped me understand the world of corporate finance much better and put it into concrete and live situations. This experience also made me stronger and sharper in general
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
There was always a lot of action and people were very friendly
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Extremely well. Good balance between placement and social events. The level of training and exposure to senior management was fantastic
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
A great deal, from training, to meeting with senior management to social events.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
It's a difficult environment for the banking industry as a whole but Credit Suisse has kept hiring talent at the junior to help them grow and become tomorrow's decision makers at the firm
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
There was a vey good atmosphere among the Summer Associates and this was helped by the fact that Credit Suisse didn't put any pressure on us to compete against each other: Those who are good and who fit, will get a job offer
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Socialising in Canary Wharf costs as much as doing it anywhere else in London. Very often did Credit Suisse and the respective teams we were assigned to take us out for dinners / events that they provided for
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Not much of a nightlife in Canary Wharf, one would have to go closer to central London
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Several social events (organised by HR and our teams, separately) as well as a charity event
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
The programme at Credit Suisse is very extremely structured as discussed previously. One is really looked after and helped by HR as well as one's own school's recruiting team to find the right fit within the bank
