The Role
- Role Description
The key responsibilities of the Owned Media team are to plan, measure and report how DCs across EMEA are supporting The Walt Disney Company campaigns. We ensure that markets are provided with a sufficient amount of content to support a release on-air and measure the amount of media value as a result of this.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
Great company to work for as lots of Disney perks :) plus they hire lots of interns which makes it a fun, lively, and sociable place to be.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Everybody is welcoming from day 1 and very friendly. I feel I have made friends for life working here.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
The nature of my role means that I often have lots of work for days/weeks at a time, and then I have a quiet patch with not a lot to do.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I have been given a fair amount of repsonsiblity, and am being given more and more as my placement continues. I am treated as an eqaul to every other member of staff, rather than like an intern.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I feel that I have learnt valuable skills which will benefit me in my final year at university, and in my future career path. I have learnt how a large business runs on a day-to-day basis, as well as learning communication, admin and organisational skills.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
As there are lots of other interns, the atmosphere is great.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
The department I am working in is currently undergoing a huge restructure so at times, it is confusing where people will be moving, or what there new role may be. However, overall my placement has been very well organised.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
I have been invited to a number of 'learning days' which has been very interesting and hugely beneficial to my greater undertsanding of Disney. Like most interns at Disney, I also have a weekly 1:1 with my manager which gives me the opportunity to ask any questions I may have.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Company Parties/Events
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Unfortunatly, Disney do not open new positions for previous interns, instead we would have to apply as an external candidate when a relevant position opened. I think this may make it difficult to get a job afterwards.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
As there are alot of other interns, we make sure we go out at least once a week. We also have team drinks and meals, and office Summer/Halloween/Xmas parties.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
West London is very expensive. I am living at home (south london) to save money, and even so travel is still very expensive.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Central London is half an hour away and has lots to offer.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Disney has football and netball teams, as well as regular events and classes avaiable to all offices in the business park we are located.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Disney is a great company to work for as all interns are looked after and supported, at the same time being given lots of reponsibilities. What I have learnt since being here is invaluable, and I strongly recommend a placement with the Disney company.
