Job Title: Early Trading Assistant
Overall Rated 7.4

The Role
- Role Description
As a trading assistant for the Early Trading department, I have a resort (Greece) to look after for which I am held responsible for the sales and profit margins. Predominately my daily work involves changing the prices of package holidays and flights to achieve the desired sales and profit margin. I also have to look at and amend sales forecasts, depending on how a hotel or flight is performing against expectations.
I have to report on how my resort is performing on a daily basis in the morning trading meetings, and have to try and meet targets that are set in these meetings.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I thoroughly enjoy the job, the exposure you get in the company is great. All interns take on the same role as graduates, and you are expected to handle a lot of responsibility.
The perks of the job are great. You get to see how your work impacts the company on a daily basis. You also get to travel a lot! I have been to Spain, Tenerife, on a Cruise... and I've only worked here 5 months!
The company benefits are amazing, you can get extremely cheap flights, better rates of currency exchange, and a £500 voucher towards a TUI holiday! - 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
There is a very good vibe in the office. Everyone is quite young and sociable, with social events happening all the time.
Collegues quite often forget you are an intern, you are treated like any other member of staff. - 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Support is always available from managers at any time needed, however good communication skills are needed as the job can be quite fast-paced.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Be prepared to be very busy!
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I think the fact that you take on the same role as a graduate, and are given a resort to look after by yourself says just how much responsibility you are given. (I have 15 airports to look after!) If you cannot handle responsibility or make decisions with conviction, this job is not for you.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
My analytical skills have developed dramtically from working here.
Training is a key priority at TUI, with a 2 week induction full of training, and refresher courses available througout the year.
I have also learnt a lot of IT skills.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- National Travel
- International Travel
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Luton isn't very good, but i commuted to the office from London, so there is scope for going out in London.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There are office sports teams
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
TUI UK is a company that own Thosmon holidays, First Choice holidays, ThomsonFly, Laterooms.com, to name a fe, (the website will give you more details). In your placement you will work with Thomson Holidays and First Choice holidays products.
