Job Title: Placement Industry Data Analyst

Overall Rated 9.1

★★★★★★★★★

The Role

Role Description

Using SQL and Excel to report adhoc and KPI reports. To be the Business Intelligence.

1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
★★★★★★★★★

Rated 9/10

Upon Joining it felt like you were being spoilt and welcomed into a massive family. The best thing is that feeling never stops and you never stop getting spoilt - They have plenty of perks for the job! The Placement itself I see as more as a mini-career in Jagex. When you start you get placed in a team which you can stay with all year, or you can apply to many other positions that Jagex advertise in-house whether its for secondments (3 months in another department) or for the rest of the year. Plenty of flexablility to move about and get from your placement what you want.

2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

This is one thing that Jagex really do well. Being hired by them is a privalege in itself as they look to see if you fit the "Jagex DNA". They have constant "jolly's" (socials) every quarter and half as your team or company wide. They even pay for your jolly's!

3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
★★★★★★★★★

Rated 9/10

We got a basic 4 weeks of training from an inspiring teacher. Once out of training we then met our team that we were going to join. The support and guidance comes from our line-manager but also from our colleagues.

4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
★★★★★★★★★

Rated 9/10

In Player Support, You will be busy. There is a lot to do and you get a lot out of it. The 4 days a week really help reward this hard work.

5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

From the word go, they thrust responsiblity on you whether its checking for bugs in game or just simply having access to a J-mod account. As you join a team you are able to apply for what responsilibilities you want and are rewarded for it. Within a week of joining we were being asked if we new JavaScript code to help fix one problem on our intranet to which a few of us volunteered and got it fixed. Plenty of opportunities to run the show!

6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
★★★★★★★★★

Rated 9/10

My Computer Science degree will benifit from this placement as I am using SQL code now daily. I have also help build a website for Jagex and have seen how the things I have been learning in computer science is used in real-life-situations which is something that is going to be invaluable in my final year.

The Organisation

7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

Work Hard, Play Hard. Even saw some nerf guns about.

8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

We have a dedicated Placement Manager who oversee's the setup of the placements from when we are starting the hiring process to when we leave (possibly even after that).

9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

They have invested time and money into me as a student to learn for the new job that I am now doing for them.

10. What were the perks on your work placement?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

  • Flexi Time
  • Subsidised/Company Gym
  • Financial Bonus
  • Company Parties/Events
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop
  • Healthcare/Dental
11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
★★★★★★★★☆☆

Rated 8/10

They give you plenty of opportunity to shine!

Other Information

12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
★★★★★★★★★★

Rated 10/10

The previous placements and the new placements usually merge for 2 months overlap in which socials are buzzing. Perminent staff love to get involved too. The mantle then gets passed over as the previous placements leave where we were waiting to continue the buzz throughout the year!

13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
★★★★★★☆☆☆☆

Rated 6/10

Cambridge, though less expensive that london, can still be quite expensive but if you look hard enough you can find some awesome quality houses for rent at reasonable prices.

14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
★★★★★★★★☆☆

Rated 8/10

Cambridge University is so social........ NOT! ARU is though :) cambridge isnt the best place ever but its still pretty good. Their Spoons is awersome!

15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
★★★★★★★★★

Rated 9/10

They have their own sports teams playing other companies reguarly. They keep incontact through a forum at work to which everyone can join

In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?

You might not be into RuneScape but if you are into games then you will constantly get a buzz from working here. ps. WORK RUNEFEST = 100% FUN
