The Role
- Role Description
I deal with project manager on a daily basis, assign access to sharepoints and time tracking codes. I lead weekly team calls.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I wasnt sure of myself to begin with and was scared I wouldnt cope with the pressure, however once I had started I found that within a week I was extremely enjoying my job and getting on really well with all of my colleagues.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
As I was trusted with a 100% billable role within a few weeks on joining the company I felt extremely trusted and valued by colleagues. I also found very quickly that all my colleagues trusted my opinion and didnt think of me as an intern but instead as a full time member of staff, this made me feel like part of the family immediately.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
My manager and mentors were excellent and gave me guidence and support wherever possible. Without them I feel I could have been overcome on many occasions and struggled with my workload.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
I feel like my workload gave me a good balance of work on my account, general IT admin within the office aswell as a little time to get involved in other things going on around the office and to study for my ITIL v3 certificate. At times I wasnt as busy as i'd hoped and at others I was extremely busy and found that that gave me a great buss.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I feel I was given as much responsibility as any other new empolyee at the company. This made me feel happy and privileged that I wasn't treated different because I was an intern.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I feel that I have developed a number of skills that will help me when I return to university for my assignments and time management. I have undertaken some training that will be useful for my studies and make me more widely employable as a graduate.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
There was a constant buzz within the office and it made going to work extremely enjoyable.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
I feel my placement was set up extremely well, I had a mentor assigned to me who had monthly meetings and was contactable at any time as well as my intern manager who ensured I had a clear workplan set out and ensured that I was able to take part in as many different activities as possible.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
I feel that the company invested as much as they could in me, they provided me with the expense to complete itil v3 training and esi project management training as well as some in house six sigma training.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Flexi Time
- Subsidised Canteen
- National Travel
- Company Parties/Events
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- Working from home
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I will definately apply for a graduate job with the company if they are being advertised when I graduate.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
We tried to have a social night out once a month which I thought was good.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
As a office we didn't tend to socialise close to the office.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
We used to go into town for nightlife.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
So far I have been given the oppourtunity in particpate in numerous activites outside the office.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
When I applied for my internship I didn't dream that I would gain the experience I have and it has made me realise how much I need to believe in myself and has provided me with so many skills that will shape my employability for the future.
