The Role
- Role Description
Assisting the audit team. Working on Microsoft Excel. Performing some tests. Proofing statutory accounts. Performing walkthroughs. Shadowing one of the partners. Working on a project about a prospective client and presenting the results to members of the department.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I really enjoyed my experience as everyone that I was working with was very friendly and welcoming.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
I felt valued by my colleagues as they invited me out to social events with them which made me feel welcomed and I felt like a valued member of the team.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Ernst & Young were really supportive throughout my internship. I had a buddy who was really helpful and he reguarly checked how I was getting on throughout my internship and he answered any questions that I had. My counsellor was also really helpful and she was generally interested in how I was getting on.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
I was kept quite busy but this meant that I was exposed to lots of different areas of the job, which gave me a really good insight as to what the graduate job would actually be like.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I was really pleased with the level of responsibility that I was given. I visited 3 different client sites during my internship, where I was given responsibility for certain sections within the audit and I was also given the opportunity to talk directly to the management at the client site.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I learnt a lot throughout my internship and I was able to develop many skills, such as presenting at time management as I was given a project to complete throughout my internship, which I presented at the end to some of the partners and department. This was a really useful experience.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
There was a great atmosphere! People were really friendly and there was always someone around to talk to and ask for help.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Very well organised. Although perhaps there could have been a few more social events to meet some of the other interns in other departments.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
People invested there time explaining things to me throughout my time there. And all of the interns were able to go to a final party in London at the end of the internship which was a lot of fun and it was a great way to end our time there. This was fully paid for and made us feel rewarded for our work throughout the summer.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- International Travel
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I am really looking forward to starting with Ernst and Young in September after my experiences this Summer.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Yes there were lots of events organised such as bowling, drinks and the final party at The Waldorf in London. They were always fun and a great opportunity to meet other people.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Everywhere was reasonable.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
It was fun, although I was travelling from home each day so I didn't really go out that much.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Yes people invited me to different events such as netball and drinks. Everyone was very welcoming!
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Ernst and Young were really accommodating and they reimbursed travel expenses to go out to client sites, which I did not realise before I started.
