A lot of responsibility was given to me when on placement - I had a large amount of say on the direction and next steps of my projects, and I was given additional experiments to run for others who were busy

The skills of working in this environment is very different from those you gain at uni, and the placement has been valuable teaching me the skills used within a business environment

There was a good social scene, with around 10 of us meeting up for lunch most days, and socialising after work every week or two

13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

The cost of living was reasonable considering I was living in Liverpool city centre, and socialising costs were again those you would expect from a city

In nearby Liverpool there is a lot of nightlife - ranging from bars and clubs. In the village where Unilever is, there are a few pubs that we sometimes went to after work

15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

There were many opportunities to do sport after work, for example badminton and netball

In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?

Although this is a big company, the site itself is not too large, and you get to know a lot of people easily as there are many inter-departmental meetings
