Role Description

My main tasks included: helping prepare appeal documentation for an appeal hearing at a site on Acre Lane. -I reviewed planning histories on the LPA websites. I researched planning policy including UDP policy and London Plan. - I did site analysis looking at the key constraints of a site. - I attended a design team meeting for the Livity School where they discussed the strategy for planning application. -I attended a public consultation for Bekhemstead. I researched TPOs and flood risk for London 2012 training venues.

I found the work placement a very enjoyable experience. I learnt a vast amount and skills which I will keep for the rest of my life. It gave me a great insight into real estate and what a future career in real estate would be like.

I was kept relatively busy, the team were conscious that I did have work to do and would take me out on site visits and meetings with architects as much as possible.

I was given quite a large amount of responsibility. The first week I was learning the ropes but after then I was given lots of tasks and more responsibility.

I feel that the skills I developed were very valuable and I that I have benefited greatly from the experience. The skills I gained I shall take with me and they will assist me in both the work place and as a whole.

I felt the placement was very well organised. We were given reminders as to what events we had coming up and on our first day we were given a timetable with all the events. I felt that there was not any more that could have been done to better organise the placement. It ran very smoothly and we were fortunate in being provided many talks which were organised for us.

The firm did not invest hugely in personal training and development, but it was only a 1 month placement so I do not feel that it would have been necessary.

The future employment prospects are hugely appealing, I have already applied to their graduate scheme. I would be hugely pleased to work for Savills.

12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

There was a good social scene amongst fellow placement students and colleagues. Fellow students would often organise to go out for drinks after work, and we also had a fun game of rounders to get to know other graduates. As for Colleagues they were also keen to get to know us and we were often taken out with them.

13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

The price of living and socialising within the area was expensive, but this does not stop socialising.

The nightlife was good, but expensive.

There were a fair amount of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. Such as meeting up for drinks after work, and the rounders game with the graduates.

In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?

The Savills Summer Placement is a very valuable opportunity. I have benefited hugely from the experience and would highly recommend it to those who are interested in a career in property. It gave me a true insight as to what a future career in this field would be like and I learnt a lot from the experience of the people I was working with and have taken away from it a lot of valuable skills.
