The Role
- Role Description
Attending client offices and verifying that they are using the correct accounting processes to prepare the acccounts. Also ensuring that all accounting reports are correct and occassionally attending stock takes.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I really enjoyed my placement, met some really great people and learnt invaluable life skills.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
I was made to feel welcome straight away!
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
I was given lots of support and any questions I had were answered straight away!
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Some clients were busier than others but there's always work to be done somewhere!
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I was given a lot more responsibility than I expected. From my first day I was given important tasks to do and made to feel valued as everyone was grateful for my help!
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
My confidence has grown a lot which of course will help me in life. Also my knowledge of accounting and how to go about audits has significantly grown which I'm sure will be useful whatever profession I choose to go into after completing my degree.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The office environment was generally quite relaxed. As most people are out at clients most of the time due to the nature of the work, it can be quite quiet. There are loads of social events organised too!
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
As there are around 40 gap students around the country, we all attended the same training course prior to starting where we received some background knowledge and our laptops. Upon arriving in the office on our first day we were told who to ask for and taken on a tour.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Obviously, the company invests more in graduates as they complete their ACA training but we were given a laptop and all expenses paid as well as a lunch allowance everyday!
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Sports and Social Club
- National Travel
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
The company is a great company to work for and if I decide to do accounting training I'll definitely be applying for a graduate job!
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Social events are organised pretty much every week!
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Manchester is a lot cheaper than London but still quite expensive compared to say Newcastle.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Manchester has some of the best nightlife!
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There's sports teams, fundraising groups, a social committee. There are loads of ways to get involved.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
If your considering it... just do it, you'll be glad you did!
