Role Description

Business and Management Placement with M&S that trained C Level Commercial Managers. Main tasks varied from team brief to staff and other management. To reading and understanding business figures to push and achieve higher sales.

I was lucky to be teamed with great supervisor's who always had time for me. They both set me down at different intervals in my placement to give me feedback on how I was getting on. Even when it was negative feedback, they made it constructive and helped you change elements to get the job done well.

As the scheme was very self driven, sometime you did feel a bit lost in what to be doing. This normally only happened whenever you moved departments or joined a new team.

When given a task, I was left to just get on with it. If I needed help it was always there and any questions were welcomed, but most of the time it was up to you to get the jobs done!

Everyone had a postive attitude most of the time, which helped with the atmosphere. But it was work, so it could only be fun some of the time!

it was very very very structured, as you have a program to follow, courses were all pre-organised for you. this meant that you kept a structure of learning in the working environment.

I was very lucky to have attended all the courses available to me, along with having the opportunity to visit different areas of the company that interested me and would help with finishing my degree, i.e visiting women's buying department

Between the placement student and graduates there was a good friendship. But as I worked in an out of town store so it was difficult for colleagues to do anything after work etc.

My store was out of town so you had to travel for nightlife, but it did have some nice places to eat close by!

Again as an out of town store it was difficult to accommodate this, but there was organised leaving do's etc that gave you the opportunity to mix
