Monthly tasks in assisting exec team
Support to engineering staff- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
thoroughly enjoyed working with E.on, the people really make the company what it is, and I felt I really was given scope to progress throughout my year.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
I felt really valued by my colleagues - I really felt like part of the team. I often forgot that I was a 'placement student', I just felt like one of the team.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
I felt a lot of support - if I showed interest in other parts of the business, my manager would go out of their way to organise for me to go outside the office and meet people from all over the company.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
It varied depending on what week of the month it was, as some weeks were busier, but overall there was always something to do.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I was given a fair amount of responsibility on my placement, and I felt like the work that I did was valued and definitely added value to the organization, which was nice to know.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I feel like my placement will definitely assist me in my final year of study and beyond. From basic communication skills within the workplace to practical experience that will back up theories learnt at University.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Really good - never a dull moment!
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Very well setup, as this position has been taken by placement students for the past few years, the team was well equipped and ready for me.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Seeing as this was a concrete role within the company, I could very easily get away with just doing the job and not developing much, but there were quite a few training oppurtunities and I was given many chances to develop beyond my work parameter.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
The opportunities to go into a graduate position are there, but it is not a guarantee, although knowledge gained from placement is very advantageous.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
As the only placement student in my office, there weren't many oppurtunities.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Living in a uni town whilst on placement meant cost of living was quite low and the night life was good.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Very good for a student town.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There were a few opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work hours, including charity work and social outings.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
There is a lot to be learnt about the energy industry from E.on, and there is scope to learn about all aspects of the industry that E.on is involved - you will finish the year feeling like an energy expert!
