The Role
- Role Description
Sales, Customer service main jobs. Also have to clean some cars, drive around collecting cars picking up customers. Have to chase debt, market to local businesses. As mentioned wide range of tasks!
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
Great experience, gives you an insight in to so many different parts of a business that I don't think you would get on other placements
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Treated like you're a full time member of staff, given exactly the same responsibility as all the staff in your position. Work 50 hour weeks so get to know everyone really well, which makes work enjoyable.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Given regular reviews by my manager so I always knew how I was getting on and what I needed to improve on. Both managers were always available if I needed them and would even stay after working hours to give me extra training.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Varies, some days none stop busy, others there's a nice flow. Only had one or two days on internship when it was really quiet it terms of customer flow, but there is still lots of office based work to do, so your never bored.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
Given same responsibility as the full time members of staff. Felt trusted by management, but didn't give you so much freedom you didn't know what you were doing good balance
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Won't get many placements where you learn such a broad range of skills: sales, marketing, accounting, customer service and general business skills that will be very useful.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
It was good, lots of driving involved with placement so people always in and out the office, but everyone got on well.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Very well organised. Very useful first week where we had training and then midway through the placement had another training with interns, good to catch up and see how all doing.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Training session, and the weeks training prior to working. Also had training folder that manager would go through on a weekly basis.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Financial Bonus
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I have being offered a job at the end of my degree.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Only really together for first week as we all worked at different branches. But that week we were encouraged to socialise together and company paid for several meals for us.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Manager paid for drinks on Friday night so no cost! I lived at home during internship so no cost there either!
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
We went for drinks every Friday after work and had a good social event in Birmingham!
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Chance to go to workshops offered by company if wanted to
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Very useful experience. Would definitely recommend the summer internship to anyone. It is very hard work working 8-6 Monday-Friday and some Saturdays 9-12 but I think you get a lot of useful experience out of it!
