The Role
- Role Description
Assisting in the merchandising and production department.
Conducting competitive research through web comparisons and comp shops.
Emailing suppliers to request fabric samples.
Putting together boards to showcase the different types of trims used and the range plans for the season.- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
The other people working at Crombie were all friendly and willing to help but were mostly a lot older and didnt have a lot for me to do.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
They were all nice and said they valued having me there, but as I had been given little responsibility and did not have a lot to do I did not feel as valued as I would have liked.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
My superviser only worked part time and did not have a lot for me to do. Although she was nice I recieved more guidence from other colleagues.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
The copmany was not very busy on the whole, so there was not a lot to do. Occassionally I would be really busy for a day if a particular task had to be completed however other times I would have nothing to do all day.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
The placement lacked the level of responsibility I was looking for as it was not a specific role and I was just required to assist in tasks when needed.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Although the responsibility was not as great as I had hoped the range of expereinces was broad and I learned a lot about the working environment as well as having to take the initiative to find things to do.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The office was quite small and quiet. Everyone got along but treated the job as a job rather than a social event.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
I was the first placement student they had taken on in the merchandising department and as a result they did not have a planned of organised structure of what to do or what was expected.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Not a lot as I was only there for 3 months.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- There were no perks with this internship
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
There is not a lot of available jobs with in the company as they tend to have just one person within each role. I would also not want to work for the company as I would prefer to work for a larger and more successful brand.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Everyone was of different ages and most travelled a fair distance to work. There was another intern there at the same time who I could socialise with.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
The area was fairly average in cost. It is a popular student city so socialising can be cheap and accomodation varies on the specific area of the city.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Good. It was close to the city centre, where there is a good numberr of bars and clubs.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
It was close to the city centre so there would be however as I was only there for a short time I didnt get involved in anything.
