The Role
- Role Description
For this placement we were split up into groups and each group was given a project. My group was given a project which broadly specified helping to map National Grids electricity network. In order to do this we spent a lot of our time researching the problems and meeting different people in the company, from many departements. The main part of our project used a lot of spreadsheets and databases. Using this software we managed to create a new database and create an interactive map. Lastly we docuemented everything we had done.

We were very valued. Everyone seemed really keen to encourage us and they were optimistic and having fresh eyes look at their system.

We were given lots of help and feedback. We had lots of meetings with our head of departements and we could ask them for feedback and help with anything. We were also asigned a team leader for our group who over saw our project.

-
e had lots of work to do most of the time but occasionally we were stuck waiting for a new peice of software.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

We were given a lot of responsibility and we had total control of our project and where we wanted to go with it. It was very clear from the beginning that National Grid wanted us to be independant and make the decisions ourselves.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
