The Role
- Role Description
I was involved in QA, or quality assurance, in other words testing. My main responsibilities involved creating and executing test scripts and managing the testing requirements.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I felt that the placement was very well organised. There was so much to do outside of my usual role e.g. presentations & networking events which enabled me to get a really good overview of the company and make some good contacts.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Everyone that I spoke to was very friendly & helpful, and I felt especially valued by the colleagues in my team.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Being assigned a manager, a mentor and a graduate 'buddy' meant the support that I received was brilliant, and there was someone that I could go to for every problem.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
As long as you are pro-active and keep asking or suggesting tasks to do, you will be busy. Any time in which I wasn't doing my usual role, I was shadowing other roles or attending relevant presentations.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I felt that as I improved in my skill, I was given more responsibility. From day one, I was given a task which was completely my own for the whole time I was there, making me feel valued and responsible right from the beginning.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I feel that a lot of the training and the skills learnt will help me in a business environment in the future, and the time management and organisational skills will help me carry on with my degree studies.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
I was lucky in that I was placed in a very laid back, but hard working fun team. There was often joking around the team which helped to lighten the mood.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
The placement was very well set up, from the 3 day intensive training at the beginning up to the support and guidance received throughout.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
They very much encouraged work shadowing and finding out about the organisation over the time I was there. We were provided with 3 day training at the beginning and then online training throughout the 11 weeks.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Sports and Social Club
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
With the 11 week internship, they offer you a possible place on the graduate scheme at the end of your time there, so it's a very good way to secure a graduate job.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Both the interns and my team often socialised and there were plenty of HR organised intern events for us, including barbeques and end of internship parties.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I can't comment on the cost of living as I lived at home, but socialising was average prices on a weekend, and there were also student evenings during the week which were cheaper.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
The nightlife in Bournemouth is good, being a student town anyway, with plenty of different places to go from pubs to bars and clubs.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There were plenty of nights out and other social events organised by interns e.g. bowling etc, there is a lot to do around the area including the beach nearby!
