The Role
- Role Description
Researching
Drafting letters and emails
Checking over deeds and contracts
Attending meetings- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
The work was challenging and stressful at times but this is a reflection of real involvement in the operation of the firm which was very gratifying and exactly what I was after on the placement.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Lots of positive and constructive feedback.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Support structures were well established. There was respect and trust to get on with work and the availability of support if you needed it.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
In first week, felt slightly overwhelmed but this improved as the placement went on.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
A decent amount. I definitely felt a part of the team and that what I was doing had importance and value. The nature of a firm is that ultimate responsibility is owned by those above you, so I was aware that my work would be checked by someone else who took that ultimate responsibility,
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Brilliant experience in terms of my legal training. Learnt an enormous amount in terms of the operation of the firm, work undertaken and the life involved.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Most people were too busy to be larking about too much but were always pleasant and up for a humorous remark in passing. Exception perhaps was my supervisor who was an absolute delight to sit with - still very busy but brilliant chat and humour, a complete legend basically.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Faultless. Excellent performance by the trainee recruitment team.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
The placement was very well planned out to allow this. Lawyers were also very kind with their time and willingness to teach and guide.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Have been offered a training contract luckily. Was less than certain about this on placement though - lots of very talented people going for limited places!
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Many social/networking events and joint training allowed us to bond well and we've formed some great ties out of the experience.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
London is never cheap for living/socialising but most events were catered for well
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
A good area for a cheeky one after work. Need to move slightly further afield to dance until dawn.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
As above - loads of great social activities including an Olympic site visit.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Again, it's not easy but the more you get stuck in, interact and get involved the more you get out of the placement. Fantastic people abound who might be quite busy but are very keen to help you - don't be afraid to ask.
