    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I have really enjoyed the insight, there were many interesting activites which helped us know Morgan Stanley better and also enhance some of the skills which are useful when working for Morgan Stanley. The organizers paid attention to include activities which are interesting and enjoyable, for example, we went to look at the trading floor, and we also had a 3-course dinner once with the employees, which was really great and enjoyable. However, there could be more activities which would be fun, for example, I would appreciate to have more games, although there were still some smaller games.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued during my time at the company because Morgan Stanley employees tried to answer all the questions we had, and also the organizers tried to make sure we were satisfied with the insight. We were given surveys to evaluate all the activities in which we participated, and we could also leave comments. In a presentation skills session we were given also some feedback on our presentations, which was really valuable.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We received a relatively great amount of support. The activity in which we received the biggest amount of support was a team project spanning over all three days, in which we were guided by a dedicated coach to our team. The help from the coach was definitely very helpful, and he helped us create a better solution to the problem we were given. He also helped us create a better presentation. As for the other activities, there was not that much support, but we could always ask many questions.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the skills which I developed or improved will be very helpful in my future. This is especially true for team work skills and presentation skills as we could greatly work on them in a group project and some of the other activities we had. There was also a dedicated session for presentation skills, which can be very helpful for my future, and during that session we did also a short presentation, and we were given some feedback on what to improve. There was also a session on enhancing technical skills, which was really fun and informative and also a session on interview skills and CVs. This session was also helpful, but it was rather short. Moreover, I have learned a lot about different kinds of projects the employees do - some of the the projects are very interesting, but some are also rather boring. I also learned a lot about finance, in several firmwide sessions, but I do not think this information will be very useful for a career in technology.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well structured, we were given an outline of the activities and the times at the beginning. The activities were varied and the different kinds of activities complemented each other well, so it kept us interested. However, sometimes it happened that the individual activities did not start exactly at the given time, but this is acceptable. There could be a bit more breaks between the individual activities.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere during the insight was great. The people there were very friendly and supportive, and they were keen to answer any questions we had. The number of activities was fine, and many of them were really enjoyable and fun. The company also paid a lot of attention to get an insight into their culture, which was great.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company greatly invested in us in terms of personal training and development. We had three sessions dedicated to the development of particular skills: presentation skills, technical skills and interview skills. There was also a team project, in which we were guided by an employee. We had also six sessions of work shadowing (6 hours together). All of the sessions were in different divisions, which was really great. There were 4 or 5 people in each work shadowing group, so it was not so personal.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We had 6 hours of work shadowing which was enough for me. I really liked that we did the work shadowing in many different groups as this helped us experience many different divisions. What I did not really like was that many of the sessions were just in the form of a presentation the employees prepared for us, so we did not experience that much what they usually do in some of the divisions.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight greatly helped me understand the company culture. There were many opportunities to talk to the employees and learn about the culture. I also learned a lot about the culture during the work shadowing - the employees there are very friendly, the atmosphere is very supportive. The number of networking events was really big, the most notable events were the speed networking and a dinner with the employees.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • There were many activities designed to help us know the company better and understand what the work for Morgan Stanley includes. The content of the insight helped me only very slightly to decide on my future career path, I am still not very sure about it, but I know that working for Morgan Stanley is one of the more interesting possibilities for me.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were paid for a great accommodation located near the office and the travelling expenses will be reimbursed in one month. I really like that we were accommodated in serviced apartments, so it was like a hotel, but the rooms were bigger, and there was also a kitchen available. We were given lunch every day, but we were given breakfast and dinner only once.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, there were numerous opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company. In particular, we had a networking dinner, we had also some speed networking with ED/MDs, a networking lunch, and we could also network during the work shadowing.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were great, and in many of them there was also some food available, which made the networking more enjoyable. I think I learned a lot from the employees during the networking, and I think it is really helpful to know their opinions on the industry, the work they do and many other things. The employees were very friendly and approachable, and they were willing to answer any questions we had, so my experience was really good.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, I did, especially in one of the presentations, and I think the opportunities for employees at Morgan Stanley are very big and varied.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, I would, this spring insight was really good.
