Job Title: Unilever Future Leaders Programme Summer Placement Student
Overall Rated 4.5

The Role
- Role Description
Working on developing new methods/tools for the Laundry category to generate fresh and innovative of ways to communicate the benefits of a product to the target consumer in a consumer-friendly and compelling way. Job bridges the gap between technical insight and marketing.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Feeling valued only really came towards the end of the placement - only when my project gained momentum.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Could have been provided with more guidance at the start of the project - but it was an open ended and unguided project for a reason; geared to allow me to explore possible methods that were never previously considered.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Whether or not my project is a success, I definitely have developed my communication skills, my productivity during work hours and my drive.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- There were no perks with this internship
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Cost of living was very low in Liverpool (compared to that of London) - I could have saved even more money and stayed closer to Port Sunlight. Socialising was not a problem with so many placement students working at Unilever at the time. I also live in a house of 3 house mates all of who work for the company in the same placement as I am on.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Nightlife is better than what we have back at University - defnitely plenty of variety so there is something for everyone. I have to say that this is not something that I have explored in particular.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
The opportunities need to be self initiated. But Liverpool is brillaint city to find things to do. The surrounding Wirral offers many opportunities (Crosby beach, Parkgate, West Kirby etc). Liverpool 1 is also great to spend weekends at and there are different events throughout the summer during the weekends that are free entry (e.g. Matthew Street festival).
