Role Description

The main projects I was involved in was Environmental reports, which assess the feasability of a site for proposed works. These reports typically include the environmental conditions of the site which may be effected by the works taking place. For example if there was a river near the propsed site then the report would outline measures to ensure no materials enter the river body.

ALthough I felt valued by my colleagues, the placement was too short to be given more responsibility and bigger projects. As a result the work given was shorter and less important.

As we rotated departments half-way through the placement, the time spent in each department was too short to be given any full responsibility.

The internship itself was organised well but this was the first year there was a rotation between departments which meant it was a little unorganised.

I was given some free time to complete personal development reports and was also sent emails inviting me to attend addition seminars to improve my PDR.

Personally I would prefer to experience a different working environment however I have always wanted to do this, so this was not effected by the placement itself

I participated in football once a week and also went out for lunch for collegues birthdays etc.

13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

The cost varied depending on where the event was. I partipated in 5-a-sides once a week and it was on a pay as you play basis.

14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

The placement I got was near my home so there was no change in the places I went at night. However the nightlife is good.

15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

Yes, emails were regularly sent round inviting the collegues to attend party etc.
