I worked as a member of the Macquaire Capital team; my work involved research, producing company overviews, generating financial models or comps sheets, client presentations, prop sums - anything the team would do and they wanted me to try my hand at.

As an internship, it was fantastic - the people were great, the HR team did everything they could to help you with networking. However it was the Investment Banking hours which made this a struggle for me.

Apart from the financial skills(eg modelling) I did learn many other more general skills like attention to detail, powerpoint, research, tenacity and perseverance at 2am in the morning...!

Lots of fun, Macquarie is a great place to work; they really value you, there are drinks on a friday at 5, table tennis, a great kitchen/ social area, flat screen tvs, and they party as hard as they work

The HR team were fantastically supportive, and ararnged lots of events for us and kepy constantly intouch with us to make sure we were ok.

9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

They obviously iinvested money in us ( we were paid) and to the extent that I was given one-on-one suport from an analyst who otherwise would be earning money for the team by working on a deal.

I don't know if I have a job with them yet, but if I wanted to be an investment banker I would 100% go for this bank; flat pack structure, lots of support, fun, laid back atmosphere compared to other American investment banks.

I didn't have that much time as any time off was spent sleeping!

In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?

I think this is a fantastic internship with a great company to get a real insight into investment banking. The only reason I didn't enjoy it was because of hte nature of investment banking, not the company. Definately do it if you can.
