The Role
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

I enjoyed the placement with Corus. The work was varied and interesting.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

I felt like part of the team and was involved with parts of their work.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

Lots of support and guidance from my line manager and was never too busy to help.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

Due to the nature of the work sometimes there is nothing to do and all of a sudden you are very busy. It is important to manage your time well.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
Quite a lot of responsibility but if I felt out of my depth I would let my manager know.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I believe the skills I learnt will be very beneficial in my future career as an engineer.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The atmoshere changed depending on how the work was going but everyone was very friendly.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
I had no problems at all and there are dedicated HR staff waiting to help with any queries.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Training schemes pop up at different times of the year. I had PLC training, defensive driving and health and safety training.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

- Subsidised Canteen
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

Very good, I will be applying for a graduate position in mny final year of university.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Not much was organised betwen the other students. Maybe an email group should have been set up.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Fairly good cost of living in South Wales area. Approximately £240. a month rent.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Excellent nightlife in Cardiff as you would expect from a Capitol city.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Not much outside work activities.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Enjoy your year off without exams, but work hard and you will get a lot out of your placement.
