Job Title: Procurement And Project Management
Overall Rated 6.1
★★★★★★☆☆☆☆
The Role
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I enjoyed my job most days with really lovely people both in the partnership and suppliers i spoke to daily, however i am not sure if its a job i want after i leave university - will just have to wait and see :)
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
I got on with nearly 100% of the people who i worked with or was around. It was definitely a strong highlight in the job.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
This was probably the only bad point i could really criticise over my placement period as the management i had was not of real a supportive nature. Most of the time this worked well for me as i prefer indepedence to do my job, however support once in a while would have been preferrable.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Rest was definitely not part of this job description which in a way made this job so unique and hardly ever boring.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I shared responsibility for nearly all parts of the job with my boss holding the other areas, however in most cases we were either sharing the load and i solely took some projects on.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
This placement has definitely increased my confidence, making me acknowledge what a huge part i can play in the business environment. I am really proud of my accomplishments this year :)
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The atmosphere changed depending on when in the week you were in the office. Some days it was extremely quiet and other days it was fun but you couldnt get any peace.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
This was an extremely great experience as a job, however it was not really structured as a placement in the sense of training or seeing other areas of the company etc. I was there to do the job at hand rather than for personal development.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
As mentioned above this was a weak part of the placement as the job required so much attention, there was not much time for personal development.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Flexi Time
- Subsidised Canteen
- Company Parties/Events
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
It was a great opportunity and experience this year, however i need time to think about whether it is the future career that i want after university.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
There were not a large number of placement students but those that were there were a good laugh and helped make this placement more enjoyable.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
The salary was not bad for a placement, however i lived an hour away from where i worked so i did not socialise in London very often but when i did it was quite expensive, but it was worth it.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
It was in London so of course the nightlife was awesome.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
John Lewis gives an ample oppotunity for outside activities but only works if you take advantage of it, which i was not great at.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
I think John Lewis is a great place to work both to put on your CV and for an insight into a friendly atmosphere where your input is really appreciated and where you can inject your views and ideas without criticism.
