The rest of the team were equally as good at imparting their knowledge of the different regulations and giving me a really good overview of the whole scope dealt with by the team, not just the parts that I was going to be helping out with.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management gave frequent advice and reviews of my work during the placement. Although meetings were not as frequent as initially we would have liked due to holidays and a ramp up of projects in the team. My manager helped identify area's were my skills would be useful and set me interesting value add projects. I was trusted to work on these and give occasional updates.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload was based around some manual tasks that had to be done daily, and then work on projects set out by my manager. This was a very good balance because it allowed me to be contributing to the team daily while also increasing my skills in research and problem solving by working on the projects.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for ensuring both vital daily tasks were done to a very high level of accuracy as well as the time spent researching and working on my projects. Later in the program I even got the chance to train new collegues in the team on what I had learned, being trusted to pass on the information I had gathered. At all times while it was clear their was oversight, I was trusted to get on with my work to a good standard.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The computer skills developed during my time at the company will be invaluable both in my studies and future employment. It is one area of my studies that is in fact lacking is in depth use of computers within the course. The majority of the course is based on theoretical concepts. Therefore this represents real world use of computers to achieve goals and projects.
