The Role
- Role Description
My role involved completion of a project working towards customer service improvement and development of processes and procedures within Payment Services. I worked with offices in Germany, Geneva and Austria, collating information on their daily duties, and researching how the service that Proctor and Gamble provides to its customers could be improved.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
The company were very supportive and welcoming. They provided excellent training and development opportunities at every step of the way.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Nothing was ever too much trouble. My colleagues were extremely welcoming and friendly and made me feel as if I'd worked at the company for years!
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
I could choose to have as much or as little contact as I wanted with management... The project was totally in my hands and for me to develop and manipulate as I wanted. Every time I approached a manager they were more than happy to help and guide me.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
I was able to manage my own diary, I had more than enough work to keep me busy and as long as I was organised and assertive, my workload was more than manageable.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
The project took whatever direction I chose. It was all in my control and I was given enough responsibility for my level of skills, considering that I had lived and worked abroad and was nearing the end of a degree programme. It was a very realistic level of responsibility.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
The skills and training I received were invaluable for my future career - they will be applicable to any future role and, I feel, will be excellent to have as part of my CV.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
People in the office managed to achieve a good balanace of professionalism and enjoyment, which made the days varied and interesting
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
It was very professionally organised, which made the experience extremely manageable and enjoyable.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
I felt that the company invested a great deal in me and were happy to provide training in any areas that I requested it. They seemed to genuinely care about developing my skills and knowledge base.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Flexi Time
- Subsidised Canteen
- Sports and Social Club
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Company Parties/Events
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I would love the chance to return to Proctor and Gamble for a permanent position upon graduation. I feel that it is a forward-thinking, dynamic organisation, which genuinely cares about its employees.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Many different types of activities were held by the company quite frequently. My fellow placement colleagues and I socialised regularly and this was encouraged by the company, which helped to improve the overall experience.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
The cost of socialising in Newcastle depends on where you go and what you do. I was able to go out most weekends if careful with my spending.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
There are many different types of bars, clubs, restaurants and other activities - something to suit everyone's taste.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There were many different opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work and they were varied and interesting; ranging from sports and nightlife to local activity groups (e.g walking).
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
If you are willing to put in lots of time and effort this placement is perfect - you get out of it exactly what you put in. I would definitely recommend it!
