The Role
- Role Description
Assisting in the department with day-to-day tasks. This included conducting legal research, drafting documents and reports and producing attendance notes from meetings and conference calls.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
A really well organised placement, the HR team and department made me feel welcome from day one and most importantly I was given interesting work on real cases.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Again, the fact that I was given real work on current matters, really made me feel like I was doing something useful and not just being a hinderance.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
All the support I needed. Everyone from HR to the head of my department took the time to explain things to me and give me any help I needed.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
A good amount of busy. I had plenty of work to keep me out of trouble for the 3 weeks, but none of it was boring time filling work. There also wasn't so much that i felt swamped.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
As a vac schemer I really didn't expect any responsibility but seeing some of my notes and research used and even drafting reports for clients did make me feel like I had a higher level of responsbility.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Defnitely helped to confirm that I'm doing the right thing. I really enjoyed the work and it will hopefully give me a bit of a head start when it comes to doing the conversion.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Always good and positive. Bit quieter when everyone was busy but even then pretty friendly.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Can't fault the organisation. Everything worked perfectly and it was really well thought through.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Eerything we needed for the vac scheme. First two days were all IT and reseach training and I was brought along to knowledge meetings whenever possible. My department also always took the time to explain the thigns they were working on to me.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Very appealing as a potential place to work. I was really impressed.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Yup, great to have drinks, lunches and dinners outside of the organised one. A lot of emails during the day too to keep you going.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
It's London so it's always going to be high but no more than anywhere else.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Central London, everything's there!
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There were vac scheme specific events and trainees invited us to join sports teams etc. Vac schemers keen to organise out of work events too.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
A really excellent scheme if you're thinking about law. 3 weeks might be longer than most but you definitely get a better feel for the office and the work in that time.
