Job Title: Vacation Scheme Student
Overall Rated 6.6
★★★★★★★☆☆☆
The Role
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I would have liked to learn more about real cases rather than doing so much research. The social activities were enjoyable, such as a pub quiz and networking event. I felt I settled in well.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
The team were very welcoming and friendly. They included me in all team events and took me out to lunches. They thanked me for work I completed on their behalf.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
I would have liked more contact with my supervisor
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
I had days where a number of pieces of work needed to be in at once. I had to balance the team presentation with quite a bit of work in my second week. My third week was quieter.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I would have liked more contact with cases and perhaps some client meetings/court visits. My main tasks were research.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Presentation, Networking and Research Skills, as well as the ability to fit into a legal team.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
I liked being in an office with one Associate for 3 weeks. We built up a good relationship. Everyone was friendly and chatted at the tea points or in the corridor and there was cake and champagne for celebrations.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
There was just the right balance of morning and evening events. The progress reviews, interviews and social events were all organised well and came at the right time throughout the three weeks. The induction pack and Project Nabarro information meant we knew exactly what we were doing all the time and when the deadlines were. All lawyers had been made aware that we were around.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Presentation technique, IT, Library and Networking training
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- Healthcare/Dental
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
A good chance of a training contract. An attractive training contract.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
I enjoyed the company of all the fellow students and we all got along well together. We organised events after work.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I had to stay with family and friends. I would not have been able to afford accommodation. Cost of restaurants/bars was not too excessive
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Plenty available
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Social activities but not really sporting activities
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
A very pleasant firm. 3 weeks in one seat is a brilliant way of structuring the vacaction scheme.
