The Role
- Role Description
Day to day running of a busy community pharmacy with basic, advanced and enhanced services. Dispensing and counter duties, interacting and co-operating with staff and delivering services to clients.
Problem solving with regard to counter queries and perscription problems and errors. All aspects of pharmacy.- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
Was a busy pharmacy and was encouraged to try and learn everything by the pharmacist and staff. No boundaries, only own lack of energy. Was a great learning experience.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Straight talking, busy and fun people to work with. The staff work hard. I tried to help them as much as possible and support them.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Very experience pharmacist with good understanding of clients and area. Just ask and you will get an answer.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
It was very busy but there were always times when a lull occurred. I like it busy and things happening.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
Given as much responsibility as you wanted, but you knew that you always had back for checking and reference. Good support.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I expected it to be busy, I choose it for this reason. However, the medicine and clinical learnings were huge. It has generated ideas and 'food for thought'. A true practical learning environment.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Being a busy store, and dealing with some serious issues, it is not expected to be a fun fare. However, the staff have a great sense of humour and have respect for each other.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
I think this pharmacy and style suited me, I would not like a super organised routine. Have a routine at university. Perhaps, more feedback on how one is performing, might suit less mature candidates.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
The information day in Leeds was useful where the training officer gave an outline of Lloyds strategy and opportunities for pre-reg students was useful and informative.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- There were no perks with this internship
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Have been offered a pre-reg placement with them. I have received rapid feedback at all times. Very positive.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
I don't know yet, will find out later.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I live in the area, so low cost for me.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Not interested, as I am mature student.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Small pharmacy and everybody has their own lives to lead. Again, i was not interested. So does not apply to me.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Work in a busy pharmacy and you will see and learn lots.
