- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
My time at Jagex has been one of the best years of my life - the lessons that I have learned will stay with me for a very long time and will definitely help me rise amongst the rest of many of the candidates in looking for a future job.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
My opinion was always taken into consideration and more often than not "We trust you - that's what we'll do" was what was given to me. I was in charge of communicating and building the relationship with one of our publishers who are not near us or have English as a first speaking language. I was often the one making difficult calls on many changes both to the game and internal systems over Product Managers and other highly ranked members of staff.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Despite not being in the same building in my case managers at Jagex are consistently looking at ways to improve their support to members of staff.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
I was always busy - working often by myself meant while I did have time to relax there was always something important for me to be doing. There were never any "filler" tasks handed out to placements.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I was given a huge amount of responsibility during my time at Jagex. While some tasks were handled by management there was often big calls in regards to how much money the game would be making through sales given to me on day one of the job.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
The skills I learned while at Jagex through some of their skill building sessions, skill building programmes and general training in order to improve in the job i could do was always excellent. While these were not very often technically based in line with my course base skills such as communication, team working etc. were given lots help and improvement
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The office was always a lively place and a friendly face wasn't too far away. People are always happy to stop and help you with your work or issues that are going on. Of course there is a professional atmosphere although it is very different to most other companies.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Occasionally due to the nature of the business some things would be delayed and have problems being ran although these occasions were quite rare and were always re-organised for a different time suited for everyone.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
Through the year Jagex always offered something new in terms of development. Giving all the opportunities regular staff got to the placements in terms of manager training, team building exercises and specialised skill up sessions the placement management team worked very hard to provide amazing opportunities to the staff.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Sports and Social Club
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Financial Bonus
- Company Parties/Events
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- Healthcare/Dental
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
The company is very welcoming and is only on the rise in terms of its future products and plan for the future. An opportunity to work at one of the best gaming companies in the world cannot be looked past lightly.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
With a large group of placements & younger colleagues there was always something to do outside of work and sometimes in work through staff jollies.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Cambridge is a fairly expensive city however there are the usual stores such as primark etc. which lower the cost and as Jagex is such a recognised company many of the local businesses (and some international ones) offer Jagex staff additional discounts rivalling that of student discounts.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
As there are two universities in the city there was always a student night placements can go out to. The nights unless crammed will let all students in regardless of which university they're from.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Many staff are always heading to the cinema or play games such as football so there's something for everyone.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Working with so many other placements made this experience thoroughly enjoyable throughout the year.
