  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I was given a piece of work, my colleagues took time to explain everything that was unclear to me. I was also never afraid to come back with more questions when I got stuck because there was always someone willing to help.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were a couple of occasions when I had little to do, but they were rare and I used this time to get through some additional training materials. More often, my days were quite busy. That said, my workload depended mainly on how much I decided to take on. I was encouraged to manage my time well to get everything done during the day and leave the office at five - no one expected me to work late.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of responsibility was high from the first day on. However, all the work I did was checked by someone else.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Most of the what I learned during my internship is very specific to the role of a benefits consultant/actuary. If I end up in a different role, I might never use some of the things I learned again. However, I also improved my IT skills (mainly spreadsheet use) and my time management. I also gained more experience with team work.
