Engineering Internship

Siemens is recruiting for a number of new opportunities at our Subsea Excellence in Ulverston, Cumbria. This business is recognised as a world leader in its field, providing subsea connectors for global oil and gas projects for over 30 years. It will play a crucial part in the development of technology that Siemens is currently developing for use in water depths of up to 3,000 metres.

The new opportunities represent a highly successful growth period for Siemens Subsea Connectors and significant investment in our technical capabilities and capacity. This new phase in the expansion of the business offers excellent opportunities to be part of a technical team that is working at the forefront of subsea technologies. As part of this growth we are looking for an Engineering Intern to provide technical support to product development projects on a number of varied tasks.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Provide technical support to product development projects including conceptual and detail design, analysis, qualification and production support including the generation of associated documentation
  • Ensure all technical tasks are performed in compliance with the departmental processes for technical scope control, quality and health and safety
  • Produce CAD generated assembly and scope of supply drawings
  • Produce detail designs to comply with the company, project and or client specification, and produce calculations and documentation to support the design solutions
  • Check documentation including drawings, design documentation and calculations generated by members of the department.
  • Define and compile procedures for qualification testing, production assembly, factory acceptance testing and site installation and the associated technical data sheets and reports
  • Provide support in technical meetings at client or supplier facilities
  • Provide engineering support to production and qualification departments when required
  • Engage with process and continual improvements initiatives

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • You will be working towards a 2:2 or above BEng degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic or similar engineering discipline
  • Good basic engineering skills (concept design, detail design, detail drawing, tolerance stack-up analysis, design review etc.)
  • Good knowledge of the basic principles of engineering with respect to mechanical systems (mechanical analysis, Forces, Moments, Stresses etc)
  • Knowledge of CAD systems
  • Knowledge of FEA systems and product testing would be an advantage
  • Ability to prioritise workload, multi-task, work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, and confidence to communicate at all levels internally and externally
