About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a student to join our Materials team in Siemens Rail Systems, a part of the Mobility division, on a 12 month Internship. Siemens Rail Systems Division provides expertise and technology for a full range of rail vehicles – from heavy rail to metros to trams and light-rail vehicles. In the UK, the division employs around 650 people and maintains over 350 Siemens passenger trains for First TransPennine Express, South West Trains, Heathrow Express, Greater Anglia, Northern Rail, London Midland and ScotRail, plus the future fleets Eurostar and Thameslink.

As an intern, you will be supporting the Materials team through varied challenges and opportunities, gaining valuable experience in the following areas:

  • Strategic planning
  • Demand planning and forecasting
  • Distribution planning
  • Production planning
  • Transport and logistics planning
  • Stores management and stock control
  • Inventory management and procurement

The role is customer focused and we are looking for someone who is professional, analytical, a strong team player, a good negotiator and confident in their own ability. You must have strong influencing and excellent written and verbal communication skills. From an early stage you will find yourself contributing to how we work.

What are my responsibilities?

  • To report to the Materials Performance Manager and take ownership for the completion of all allocated tasks to the best of your ability
  • To fully participate and engage with the internship scheme, by completing all elements of a structured training plan, including the Siemens plc Intern Development Programme
  • To work towards personal goals and objectives set at regular learner reviews, and actively seek opportunities for personal and professional development

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • You must be studying towards a 2:2 or above in a Logistics, Procurement, Supply Chain or Business related degree
  • You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • You must have excellent organisational and time management skills
  • You must have excellent analytical skills

What else do I need to know?

Siemens is committed to investing in its entry level talent, and – in conjunction with National Skills Academy for Rail Engineering (NSARE) – will be opening the new National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR) in Northampton in Autmun 2015. The Academy represents an exciting opportunity to become part of a community of developing rail professionals, helping to push the industry forwards.

Also, this role is a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract, starting in the summer 2015.
