About Bushwise

Bushwise specializes in running professional FGASA's (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) accredited courses and Hospitality Course and Work Placement programmes. Both the organisation, as well as our graduates, are highly recognized in the hospitality industry due to our high standards and excellent reputation.

The hospitality programme was born out of Bushwise’s extensive contacts and excellent reputation in the Hospitality industry. Over the years, through our dealings with lodges for placements for Field Guides, we saw the opportunity for professional students to assist in luxury Game lodges across Africa, while gaining invaluable international work experiences in many of the hospitality areas. Currently students with previous skills and/or experience are being given this unique and life changing experience to be involved in skills exchange, in some of the top lodges in Southern Africa.

Hospitality Course and Work Placement

This is a unique and exciting way to build on your hospitality career in the exhilarating environment of the African wilderness. Each internship begins with a 2 week bush and wildlife orientation course where you will gain in-depth knowledge of South African wildlife and the safari industry. You will acclimatise to life in the bush, going on breath-taking game drives, visiting some of our partner lodges and gaining an insight into safari lodge operations. After the 2 week orientation you will move on to your tailor-made work placement at one of our partner luxury game lodges. Students receive full mentoring throughout the internship to aid personal and professional development and take away excellent experience to boost their CV, the Bushwise Hospitality Certification and a reference to take into future employment.

Internship positions could be in the below sectors:

• Chef/catering staff
• Food & beverage
• Front desk/guest relations
• Spa therapist

Requirements

• 1+ year's experience in the hospitality industry (Tourism, Hospitality, Culinary or Hotel Management)
• OR must have completed a hospitality-related course
• Must be aged 18+
• Must be fluent in written and spoken English

Bushwise and its staff are directly linked with Global Vision International (GVI) an internationally recognised organisation which assists with marketing, recruitment, pre-country and in-county support. GVI has a wealth of experience in volunteer and student placements as well as training and course development. Every year they currently send over 3,000 people into the field worldwide. Together GVI and Bushwise have combined their experience and skills to develop a training program of excellence.
