Human Resources Placement

As the HR Placement Student within this very busy department, you will be an integral member of the HR Team and will support key projects throughout the year.

This role involves dealing directly with employees, supervisors and management on subjects such as company policy, recruitment, employee support, contracts, employment law and absence management.

Responsibilities

  • Attendance at disciplinary and grievance meetings, taking minutes and collating all relevant information.
  • Involvement in the recruitment of manufacturing/office staff including advertising, coordinating applications, liaising with managers and arranging and supporting interviews.
  • Raising work orders for contingent workers and maintenance of the temporary headcount report.
  • Supporting sickness and absence management and following up on individual actions required.
  • Participation in absence reviews with supervisors and/or Occupational Health.
  • Assisting with the administration and updating of HR policies/procedures.
  • Management and administration of the Employee Recognition Programme, long service awards and retirement lunches.
  • Sourcing information, interpreting, developing and implementing achieving results to agreed deadlines.
  • Supporting the department on key tasks and projects, supporting team members, working both independently and within teams.
  • Any other generalist HR duties as required by the department.
  • Embracing the Company values and mission.
  • Representing and promoting Cummins Power Generation to the Customer, internally and externally.

Training Provided

  • A comprehensive induction programme as well as role specific training.
  • Individual training to suit particular business skills required by the business or identified by the candidate.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Studying for a Human Resource Management or Business related degree.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills to include Excel and PowerPoint Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude with a desire to learn and take on responsibility.
  • Some experience of working within the HR function will be advantageous but not mandatory.

Project Management Placement

As the Project Management Placement Student within the Power Products Program Management Team, you will work within a team environment in developing improved business processes and applying project management skills to projects associated with New Product Development.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource on projects and work assignments, employing a basic knowledge of effective project management and general business understanding.
  • Assist with project planning and tracking, research and analytical support, providing input into the design and development of project plans and associated timelines.
  • Monitor and communicate project status to project teams and the wider business.
  • Identify, track and then work with others to resolve project issues.
  • Assist with the management of project risk, using standard tools to identify areas of risk.
  • Document and share team learnings with other teams, draw on other experiences to enhance the success of the projects.
  • Maintain project notes, databases and other records, monitor and publish key performance measures.
  • Communicate to the Program Management Leader the status of specific projects and assignments.
  • Embrace the Company values and mission, representing and promoting Cummins Power Generation to the Customer, internally and externally.

Training Provided

  • A comprehensive induction programme as well as role specific training.
  • Individual training to suit particular business skills required by the business or identified by the candidate.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Studying for a Project Management or Business related degree, predicted to achieve a minimum of a 2:1 grade.
  • Have an understanding of the relationships and balance between the project management fundamentals of Scope, Schedule and Resources in order to successfully plan and deliver projects.
  • Aware of steps to develop and manage change, including risk identification, analysis and mitigation.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills to include Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude with a desire to learn and take on responsibility.
  • Some experience of leading projects would be advantageous but not mandatory.

Finance Placement

Working under the guidance of a busy manufacturing Plant Finance department the placement role offers the opportunity to participate in a diverse and stimulating environment.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing the reclaiming of monies from suppliers for vendor defective materials.
  • Processing engine sales information, pricing Sales and generating invoices for some of our largest customers.
  • Month end accounting including preparation of journals.
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating two process improvement projects during the year.
  • Involvement in the compliance work in relation to HMRC duties.
  • Carrying out month end Sarbanes Oxley control requirements.
  • Taking part and leading community projects and fund raising activities.
  • Opportunity to participate in Six Sigma projects.
  • On occasions the placement student will present key deliverables to Senior Management.

  • Individual training to suit particular business skills required by the business or identified by the candidate.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Business Studies or Accounting/ Finance related degree discipline.
  • A strong interest in financial operations.
  • Experience of team working.
  • Familiarity with using Microsoft Excel.
  • Self-motivated and the willingness to learn and develop.

To be eligible for our 12 Month work placement you must be a university student who has a placement year option as part of their degree programme. You will spend a year in a specific department to gain real experience in your subject area. You are supported by formal and informal training, and work on projects that add true value to the business.
