About GSK

One of the world’s leading healthcare companies, GSK discovers, develops, manufactures and distributes life-saving vaccines, prescription medicines and consumer health products such as Maximuscle, Sensodyne, Aquafresh and Panadol.

The size and scope of our organisation allows our people to answer some of the biggest questions facing everyone on the planet – questions about future healthcare needs and questions about building a responsive, innovative, global business to meet them – as well as questions about their own personal and professional growth.

What does a Communications industrial placement have to offer?

The communications team gives GSK a voice. We engage, inspire and inform our employees. Externally, we look after our global brand image and reputation. How do we do this? By coming up with and delivering clear and consistent messages to patients, consumers and doctors, shareholders, investors, partners, the media and the general public.

Our 12 month industrial placements offer the opportunity to work with our various teams to support the communications requirements of the business both internally and externally. In Consumer Healthcare, you could develop brand campaigns for some of the world's leading household brands. In Pharmaceuticals, you might develop campaigns to raise awareness of our healthcare products and initiatives including the charitable programmes we support to raise healthcare standards globally. In corporate communications, you could be enhancing our reputation through reporting or media relations.

In digital communications you will gain hands on experience of managing GSK's corporate digital channels including GSK.com, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn providing relevant and up to date information. Some of the main activities that the student would get involved in are helping to develop and maintain the company's external corporate websites, monitoring and replying to comments and questions in GSK’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn), providing expertise and insight into current and future digital communications and technologies, designing and creating infographics, interactive elements, edit images and photos and liaising with GSK's digital communications contacts around the world

What’s in it for me?

A placement is a great chance to apply the skills you have learned at university in a ‘live’ role and learn new ones. The work will bring you into contact with people across the business, external organisations and the media, so you’ll be constantly developing your interpersonal skills. You’ll also build your organisational and problem-solving abilities.
