Join our brilliant rail team on a student placement and you’ll develop the skills you need to enjoy a fantastic career. Working on some of the most exciting engineering challenges of our time, you’ll help to solve real-life problems with one of the world’s leading engineering and design consultancies.

Atkins Rail is involved in some of the most technically challenging design and engineering projects in the rail industry. A placement within the Atkins Rail division will give you an opportunity to work alongside some of the industry’s leading engineers and gain experience of being part of the project teams behind some of the Rail industry’s major infrastructure projects.

If you’re a talented student who pushes the boundaries, we can offer you the chance to work on international projects with the industry’s finest minds. You’ll also be well rewarded as you gain skills that are highly valued by the rail industry. Our summer placements last for 8-12 weeks. Requirements

Successful candidates will be adaptable and innovative so as to learn new skills and to apply their technical education to practical effect. Some of the personal characteristics that will be important are:

  • Good communication skills to deal effectively with a wide range of people at various levels of seniority
  • Be self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Be a “team player”
  • Have good problem solving skills
  • The ability to take tasks through to completion
